Our Story
Founded over 50 years ago by husband-and-wife team Grady and Peggy Ann McIver, GP Paulownia Plantation was formed. Grady loved his Paulownia trees, but above all, he loved his family and his country more. Grady proudly served in both the Korean and Vietnam war, had eight years of active-duty military service under his belt, and thirty years of service in the S.C. Air National Guard where he retired as a Chief Master Sargent. He was a loving husband, father to 3, and "Papa Grady" to 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
With a passion for farming, Grady decided quickly that Paulownia tree farming was the right path for him. The tree's quick growth, beautiful wood finish, its light weight, and strength were all things that were appealing to him, and he knew it'd appeal to his customers as well. Countless hours were spent in his fields planting, growing, and harvesting alongside his loyal farmhand, Anthony, and grandson Michael. Grady's dedication to his farm, and his desire for his farm to continue after his passing, led him to teach Michael everything that he knew. Michael learned from Grady for more than 15 years, studying and memorizing every step, procedure, and insider tip that could be offered to grow Paulownia trees to their full potential.
Unfortunately, Grady passed away at the age of 83 in the fall of 2017. With so many uncertainties, we all knew two things: his farm and his legacy would be continued. Today, GP Paulownia Plantation remains independently owned and operated by his grandson Michael and continues to maintain the legacy that only a man like Grady could create. Michael lives on the family farm with his wife, Lauren, three beautiful children, and two dogs. While time changes many things, GP Paulownia Plantation continues to remain dedicated to growing the highest quality Paulownia Elongata trees, with honesty and integrity, every time.
